Pay It Forward through YouTube

What are ways in which a group of people or an organization can raise money to donate to a charity? Non-profit organizations must always come up with new ideas of how to fundraise in order to continue as an org and keep paying it forward. YouTube star, Kevin Wu, also known as “KevinJumba” found an interesting way to raise a great amount of money for charity.

In an article on Huffington Post, Kevin describes how he was able to help build a school in Africa with his YouTube views. The increasingly large audience that Kevin was able to attract became the key to being able to raise so much money. The Supply is a non-profit organization that saw potential in Wu and invited him to visit Africa to teach English to African children. After his return, Kevin decided to dedicate 100% of his profit made through his YouTube channel to The Supply. He was ultimately able to provide education to many children in Africa.

The Idea of using YouTube videos to fundraise and increase awareness is not a new idea. In 2011, Mashable posted an article covering a YouTube channel that helps non-profit organizations to increase their campaign awareness and raise funds.  Launched by BroadbandTV Corp, the channel is called VISO Give. It has already partnered with a number of non-profits such as Livestrong and United Way. Basically, every time someone watches a video on that channel, a penny is donated to a specific cause.

Do you enjoy making and uploading videos? Do your videos get a considerable amount of views? Do like Kevin Wu! Pay it forward by doing what you like to do! And if you don’t like or you don’t know how to make videos, you can always watch and enjoy other people’s videos while donating money for a good cause.

Scilla is a town and comune in Calabria. It’s the traditional site of the sea monster “Scylla” in Greek mythology. 22 km from Reggio Calabria, it lies at the Strait of Messina, and it is composed of 2 parts: downtown, where the town offices and the residence of the patronal saint are situated, and Marina di Scilla, beach-front, populated by tourists, thus characterized by hotels and restaurants. Since its beach is the first place north of Reggio where the waters are not cooled down by the Strait draughts, it’s a popular destination. Ruffo Castle, a fortress built by the Dukes of Calabria, overlooks the beach.

Baking For Charity!!!

Baking for Charity

When we think of a birthday party or celebration, one of the things that probably comes to mind is the great big cake that will be had. I remember how happy I used to get when my parents would bring out my birthday cake.  After all, a birthday party without a birthday cake is just not right! Unfortunately, many kids don’t have the same privilege of having a cake on their birthday. According to Sue Quinn, in an article posted on The Guardian, Free Cakes UK is a service that matches amateur bakers with families struggling to provide their child with a birthday cake. While baking cakes may seem to be just a small gesture, a birthday cake can actually be very meaningful for a young kid. Being able to bring the “candle” light to a child’s birthday and a smile to their face is such a rewarding experience.

Another way to contribute to charity through baked goods can be found on this website: www.bakingforgood.com. Here, people can order their own personalized cakes, cupcakes, or cookies and choose which type of charity they want their money to be donated. These pastries are a terrific gift for anyone and can also be the perfect plate to bring to a dinner party or other event. The beauty of this site is that you get to shop for tasty treats while paying it forward at the same time. What could be more satisfying?

In an article written by Nikki Vivian on honestcooking.com, she shows how effective baking has become in fundraising for charities, especially in the UK where the idea has grown greatly in popularity. The combination of baking delicious treats, shopping for personalized snacks, enjoying a delicious cake, all while helping those in need is an amazing thing.

Wouldn’t you love to try some of these delicious cakes, cupcakes or cookies while paying it forward? It would certainly alleviate part of the guilt.
